about us
Mountain forests, streams and valleys make up the 7,400 acres in Garrett State Forest.
In 1906, the Garrett brothers of the B&O Railroad fame gave the State of Maryland 2,000 acres of forestland under the condition that a state forestry department be established to manage the area. The donated area was originally named Swallow Falls State Forest. The name was changed in 1976 to Garrett State Forest in honor of the donors.
The park features: Cross country skiing, campsites, fishing, hiking trails, historic interest, hunting, riding trails and snowmobiling.
Pets are invited to accompany responsible owners. Pets are allowed in all areas of the Forest. No leash is required as long as pets are under control.
