Skip Mason started pickin' on an acoustic guitar at the age of 10 and from that point music was a focus in his life taking him on a melodic adventure of rock 'n roll, blues, country...even a Florida beach band...
His interests in music have been sparked by the great names that moved us all- from the early greats such as Hank Williams and Woody Guthrie to the rock legends like Led Zeppelin, Clapton, The Allman Bros., and the Beatles. His Appalachian roots have helped him develop a style which mixes all of these influences into an upbeat, fun genre of its own.
Spending much of his life both on the stage and at "the other end of the snake" as a sound engineer, music has been his passion and guitar playing and songwriting his skill.
Cindi Mason was always drawn to music and the acoustic influence of older brother David, who would entertain her for hours on end and introduce her to the likes of John Prine, James Taylor, and John Denver. Cindi's musical interests were cultivated through the various genres coming out of the 70's and recalls the day that Carole King's Tapestry album changed her life! Although her bass playing came a little later, she naturally fell into that position and quickly added the perfect accompaniment that Skip had been longing for.
Music would seem to be the thread that pulled these two souls together. Starting as just some basic guitar lessons in the living room soon turned to working out arrangements and thus "The Masons" would soon be born bringing a new dimension to this phenomenal partnership.
Over the past few years, The Masons have evolved with tight arrangements, smooth harmonies, and their ability to put their Appalachian spin on familiar songs, which has generated enthusiastic audience support from the numerous performances throughout their home state of West Virginia. Now The Masons are taking their music to an expanded audience throughout the East Coast.
The Masons are Skip and Cindi. Skip plays acoustic guitar and lead vocals, and keeps the audience entertained with his humor. Cindi plays acoustic and upright basses and harmony vocals, and keeps their show on the road.
