The Jakob's Ferry Stragglers are a four piece string band based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They combine a variety of influences ranging from Old-Time, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz, Rock and 1930's style swing music to create a tight, high-energy sound, complete with heavy grooves, soulful ballads, and extended jams, cherry-topped with well-blended harmony and honest songwriting, and interlaced by a deep well of improvisational skills. Formerly known as The Weedrags, the group formed in 2010 and has been seen at venues and festivals all over the mid-atlantic region, including, The Flood City Music Festival, The Three Rivers Arts Festival, The Washington County Whiskey Rebellion Festival, Smoked Country Jam, Hickory Fest, to name a few. The group has opened for The Steeldrivers, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Town Mountain, David Davis and The Warrior River Boys, Larry Keel, The Felice Brothers, Mike Compton and The Augusta All-Stars, Drymill Road, and Frank Solivan and The Dirty Kitchen. The Weedrags decided to change their name to avoid confusion with another regionally active band. The Jakob's Ferry Stragglers hope to continue to build on the foundation they started as The Weedrags.
