FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Team 7978, “iLEGO”, recently returned from competing in the Southern California North American Invitational in Carlsbad, California, among 74 other teams from around the world. iLEGO earned the invitation to compete in California by winning the Champion’s Award at the Maryland State FLL Championship this past March among the 72 teams competing. According to FIRST, the Champion’s Award is FLL’s most prestigious award that, “Celebrates the ultimate success of the FIRST mission in FLL Values. It measures how the children inspire and motivate others about the excitement and wonders of science and technology, while demonstrating gracious professionalism. The Champion’s Award is determined by giving equal weight to all four arenas and competition: technical design & programming, robot performance, project presentation, and teamwork- and additional consideration to the team demonstrating FLL values to all the judges.”
Come out and support these young creative learners! All money raised goes to benefit iLego.
Robert Levee Smith has appeared on stages alongside many of the artists that formed the core of the music scene in the 1970s and 80s including Pure Prairie League, Jonathan Edwards, Randy Newman and many others. He was part owner of Cornucopia Sound, one of the largest sound companies in the world during the early 70s, and toured with Rock ‘n Roll shows including the Jesus Christ Superstar Original English Opera Production. Always specializing in songwriting, Smith had his first song published in 1973 by Artie Resnick , Benji Music BMI, and spent the better part of a year working with Resnick, author of “Under the Boardwalk” and a
host of other 60s and 70s top ten hits. But "Top 40" has never been Smith’s favorite, so in 1975, he escaped the city and moved to the mountains of Garrett County, Maryland, where he teamed up with Keith Roberts to
make a new style of music, a cross between bluegrass, folk, and rock. Smith & Roberts produced two albums of original music; the first, “Buffalo Run,” debuted in 1980. After touring with that album, the two took a long
break to raise families. For their return, they formed a new group called the Smith & Roberts Band, and recorded “By Accident” in 2005 near Accident, Md.
These days, Rob Smith is playing on his own, keeping it simple but always with a batch of new tunes to tickle the guitar strings and, hopefully, your fancy!!
