International Tourist Awareness Training

In preparation for the upcoming Deep Creek 2014 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships and the influx of international visitors to Garrett County, your Chamber is offering an International Tourist Awareness Training on Wednesday, August 27, 8:30-11:00 a.m. in room 205 of the Continuing Education Building at Garrett College. The purpose of the training is to help local businesses learn how to communicate and better serve international customers that may not be familiar with USA and Garrett County customs. We have arranged for Dr. Kristin Lamoureux to provide this unique training. Dr. Lamoureux is the Director of the International Institute of Tourism Studies within the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the George Washington University. She specializes in tourism and hospitality management, destination management, volunteer tourism, sustainable and niche tourism development. Currently, her duties include the oversight of all of the Institute’s activities including the Event Management and Destination Management Professional Education Programs. At the training, Dr. Lamoureux will discuss the 10 dos and don’ts, gestures and slang, the use of technology and provide overall insight on what international customers expect. Take back information will also be provided. Given our proximity to Washington, D.C. and the many international visitors who already frequent Garrett County, this invaluable training will provide our local businesses with tools to use long after the worlds are over. All managers and owners of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, lodging, retail and attractions are strongly encouraged to attend. The training is FREE and open to all local businesses.
