Garrett College in coordination with the University of Maryland Extension will be offering a course, Basic Greenhouse Fundamentals, at the Northern Outreach Center in Grantsville. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, February 10 - 24, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. During the course, participants will be encouraged to participate by going through all the steps for getting started with their own greenhouse. There will be a short introduction to basic horticulture science, greenhouse designs, mention of high tunnels and their uses, and advantages to each system depending upon individual goals. Planning, budgeting, and goal setting will be discussed along with crops, containers and growing media to make one?s greenhouse endeavor a success. Enjoy lots of discussion and sharing of references and resources. The course is being instructed by Ashley Bodkins who received her B.S. degree in Agronomy from WVU and an A.A. degree in Horticulture from Potomac State College. She works for the University of Maryland Extension where she answers home horticulture questions and coordinates the Maryland Master Gardener Program for Garrett County.
